Calcium phosphorus ratio

I have purchased the book, (it's great!) but something doesn’t make sense.
On page 44 it it says that in our blood there should be MORE calcium than phosphorus.
But on page 38, it says our calcium INTAKE should be LESS than phosphorus intake.
This appears to contradict.......... if we eat less calcium than phosphorus, won’t it also show up in our blood as less calcium to phosphorus as well?

Hi Lisa,

Yes, it could be simply put that what we eat is what we get. If we eat more calcium, then it should reflect that we have more calcium in our blood. However, the case is different when we intake other anti-nutrient foods like grains that have phytic acid.

Going back to your concern about the confusing statements, I can't seem to find the statements you are confused about. In the second edition of the book "Cure Tooth Decay," there is a strong statement that there should be a balance between calcium and phosphorus in our blood. If there is calcium deficiency and increased phosphorus, gum problems may occur. If calcium prevails over phosphorus, there could be calculus formations.

Well it is probably the first edition then.... Could you find these statements?
I would so much appreciate it!
I have been trying to understand if its a typing error.
It's Page 44 and page 38.........the statements about the calcium seem to contradict

Hi again Lisa,

I currently do not have access on the first edition but it may be better if you will take a hold of the current book edition (Cure Tooth Decay 2nd edition) since there are improvements on that version.

Let me add though that according to Dr Melvin Page, 2.5 parts calcium to one part phosphorus balance per 100cc of blood creates tooth decay immunity. And a 1-1 1/2 grams of calcium per day is beneficial for an adult regarding fighting tooth decay.

I need to know the authors thoughts....not speculation . For all i know it could be a typo error.
You don't have the first book? And you can't explain what he meant.
So then how can you answer the question?
Is there some way I can ask the author what he meant?

I bought the book and I am totally confused and frustrated, and I don't want to buy the book again just to figure out one question.

I bought the first edition and here is what it says:

Page 38: Eat daily: 1.5 grams calcium; 2 grams phosphorus
Page 44: Blood balance must be 2.5 parts calcium to 1 part phosphorus.

This contradicts.
If we want more calcium than phosphorus in our blood, shouldn't we eat more calcium?

Hi Lisa,

How much we eat is only indirectly correlated with what is actually in our blood.

Page 38, estimated daily intake. Note of course this varies greatly from individual to individual.

Page 44. The balance of ratio's of minerals in our blood stream. I don't think there is that much correlation to how much we eat. The blood balance is only important if you are doing blood testing. If you do blood testing you can see if you need more or less calcium and / or phosphorous.

Thanks Ramiel, nice of you to comment, but I'm still confused......

I realize that its (a bit) different for each individual, but I am referring to Dr. Price's 'General' expectations here; the general outcomes he is 'expecting' with these guidelines.

He is saying that (generally) by eating more phosphorus than calcium, we will end up with more calcium than phophorus.

My question is:

How does that happen? Do we (generally) use up phosphorus faster, and need to replace it in larger amounts?

Hi Lisa,

I don't know.
And that is not what Dr. Price said.
Unless you are doing blood tests, I wouldn't worry about what your body does with the calcium, or the phosphorus. The point is that you should have adequate amounts.

So are you saying the calcium:phosphorus ratio doesn't matter unless we are having a blood test?

Hi Lisa,

the discussion of the concept in the book is meant to give people and outline of the exact mechanisms of tooth decay.

The lesson is that one should have plenty of both calcium and phosphorus in the diet, and that fat-soluble vitamins will balance that calcium phosphorus ratio. To control or monitor this more exactly requires more specific testing like blood tests. Most people do not need to be super precise, the body figures out what to do with the food.
